Prior to electronic records, each freight car had a 5 x 8 index card, known as car cards, that detailed each car’s history, showing builder and build date, along with reweighs, repairs, and disposition. All 120,000 car cards received from the CNW have been digitized, front and back. The cards primarily span cars new to the CNW from 1913 to 1980. Rebuilt and renumbered cars received new cards or used the old car’s card. Original cards from the CGW and MSTL are included along with cars acquired from the CMO, FDDM, DMCI and LM. Cabooses, early autoracks and maintenance of way cars are also covered. Collection is provided on a 128 GB USB flash drive in the form of 200,000+ images.
